How to Delete a Blank Page in the Middle of a Word Document
If you want to remove a stubborn blank page, whether it’s in the middle of your document or lingering at the end, here are the most up‑to‑date methods that work in current versions of Word.
It’s always useful to check where paragraph marks and hidden formatting sit in a long document.
Show paragraph marks
Press CTRL + SHIFT + 8 (or Command + 8 on Mac),
OR
Go to Home → ¶ (Show/Hide).
Paragraph marks show all spaces, line breaks, and empty paragraphs that often cause unexpected blank pages.
Remove the extra content
Highlight the unwanted paragraph marks, page breaks, or section breaks.
Press DELETE (or BACKSPACE, depending on your cursor position).
Using Find and Replace to Delete a Page
If your page contains content you want to remove quickly:
Select the entire page using the Go To tool
- Click anywhere on the page you want to delete.
- Press CTRL + G (or Option + Command + G on Mac).
- Type \page in the “Enter page number” box.
- Click Go To → this selects the entire page.
- Press Delete.
This method is still valid and works across all recent Microsoft Word versions.
How to Delete a Blank Page at the End of Your Document
Blank pages at the end usually occur because Word always keeps a final end‑paragraph that can’t be deleted but you can shrink it so the page disappears.
Remove the final blank page
- Press CTRL + SHIFT + 8 to show paragraph markers.
- Click the final paragraph mark on the last page.
- Go to Home → Font Size and change it to 1 pt. (Or right‑click → Font → set Size = 1.)
- If the blank page remains, also set line spacing to:Home → Paragraph → Line Spacing = Exactly 1 pt
This will collapse the final paragraph so it no longer forces a new page.
