Our very own Megan Visser, vCIO and Head of Marketing at VITG, has been named the 2024 ARN Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) Champion. This prestigious award recognises Megan’s outstanding leadership in driving Diversity and Inclusion (DE&I) initiatives within VITG and across the broader technology industry.
Megan’s passion for fostering an inclusive, diverse, and equitable workplace has been instrumental in shaping VITG’s approach to DE&I. Her tireless efforts to create a culture that embraces all employees, regardless of their background, have been central to VITG’s success in this area. The Equality Council, which Megan helped establish, is one of the key drivers of these initiatives. Originally launched at Powernet, this council was expanded to the entire VITG Group following the merger, ensuring DE&I remained at the heart of the company’s operations.
Under Megan’s leadership, VITG has implemented a range of impactful policies aimed at creating a more inclusive workplace. Notably, the company has abolished the gender pay gap for like-for-like roles, offering equitable compensation to all employees. Megan has also spearheaded the development of family-friendly policies, including enhanced parental leave and family violence leave provisions, ensuring that employees feel supported at every stage of their professional and personal lives.
VITG’s commitment to respecting cultural and religious diversity is another area where Megan’s influence has been felt. All VITG offices are now accredited as breastfeeding-friendly workplaces, and the company has introduced dual-purpose prayer and family rooms, demonstrating a commitment to accommodating the needs of all employees. The Holiday Swap programme, which allows employees to exchange public holidays to observe significant cultural or religious events, is another initiative born from Megan’s leadership in this space.
“Megan’s work has truly set the standard for what can be achieved through a strategic, thoughtful approach to DE&I,” said Bernard, CEO at VITG. “Her leadership in creating a workplace that champions equality, respect, and inclusivity has been transformative for our organisation and has set an example for the broader industry to follow. We are beyond thrilled that her dedication has been recognised with the 2024 ARN DE&I Champion Award.”
Megan’s work extends beyond internal policies and programmes. She has been instrumental in implementing balanced gender interview panels, ensuring fair representation throughout the recruitment process. In addition, VITG has rolled out pronoun options in email signatures, further reinforcing a workplace culture that embraces and respects individual identities.
Megan’s accomplishments serve as a testament to VITG’s ongoing commitment to DE&I. The company’s goals, including achieving Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) accreditation and promoting greater cultural diversity, reflect a strategic vision that continues to evolve under Megan’s leadership. Through her work, VITG has partnered with external bodies such as the Diversity Council of Australia and has taken part in initiatives like the Rising Women programme, reinforcing its position as an industry leader in DE&I.
Winning the 2024 ARN DE&I Champion award is a well-deserved recognition of Megan’s unwavering commitment to fostering a workplace where diversity is celebrated, and inclusion is second nature. VITG looks forward to building on this momentum as it continues to champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in the tech industry.
